I recently read an article concerning Arizona and its rather liberal attitude on gun control. There is legislation under way that would allow persons with concealed weapons permits to carry guns in bars and restaurants (you can't drink though)....and hey, who doesn't want to go to the bar with their favorite concealed pistol and not drink? Anyway, I'm not really pro or anti gun but that article was the inspiration for the bullet piece I modeled above.

  2. Interesting, Corey. I posted something like this a few weeks ago (without the cool rendering) at my little rant-based blog regarding crime statistics and gun policies. I grew up in Arizona, so this article drew my attention. (Getting my ranting done on the blog tends to reduce annoyance of my friends and family.)

  3. Jeff - Interesting commentary. There definitely seems to be some statistical links between gun ownership and crime rates. I'm wondering though if you would need to take a larger sampling..maybe look at who the victims were..do certain cities have more gangbangers, etc.

  4. Certainly a larger sample would be in order for any sort of real debate on the issue (for statistical reasons). But the rational argument for why this is so sort of short-cuts this, in my opinion. For instance, gang bangers aren't very concerned about handgun rules, and they have a tendency to own handguns even in places where they're banned. Funny how that happens.

I was a bit surprised in doing the short statistical study I did that the numbers were as skewed as they were--even in that small sample--but it makes sense, ultimately from the rational side.
